Cadmium-sulfide (inorganic) has a chemical composition of CdS. It can be dissolved in water and in acids, but it is not soluble or soluble enough to dissolve in ammonia.
Particle Size: -60mesh (or customized).
Purity: 99.99%
Cadmium Sulfide and Cadmium Sulphide both are inorganic substances. Cadmium-sulfide chemical name is CdS. Two crystals are available: the a and b forms of CdS contain a mixture of lemony yellow and orange-red particles. Lightly solubilized in water. Soluble in acids. Cadmium sulfur is yellow solid. Cadmium sulfide has two distinct crystal structures. These are the rare minerals leucite and clinopyroxene. It is most commonly used to substitute for zinc in an ore of similar structure, which is zinc ore Sphalerite, and zinc ore wurtzite. Because it’s easy to separate from and clean, this is the primary source of cadmium for all commercial uses. Due to its bright yellow color it was used as a pigment in “Cadmium Yellow”, a yellow paint that originated from the United States.
Like zinc sulfide, cadmium sulfide has two crystal forms. Greenockite mineral has a more stable hexagonal wurtzite and a cubic zirconium mixed structure. Cadmium and sulfur have four coordinates in both of these forms. Another high-pressure type is available with NaCl rock salin structure.
CSM has an energy gap of 2.42eV and is a semiconductor with a high bandgap. Because its bandgap lies close to the wavelength visible light, it has a vibrant appearance.
Both polymorphs can be piezoelectric and both the hexagon and polymorphs have pyroelectric properties.
CdS can be used to gain solid-state lasers.
Combining CdS with layers can result in thin films that are suitable for specific types of solar cells. CdS can also be used in thin film transistors (TFT) as it is one of the earliest semiconductor materials.
CdSfilm may be a piezoelectric movie and can work at frequencies as high as GHz.

How is Cadmium sulfide CdS powder manufactured?
You can prepare cadmium sulfuride by precipitating from the salts of soluble Cadmium(II), with sulfideions. This has been applied to qualitative inorganic and gravimetric analyses.
Cadmium ore used in industrial applications is leached to cadmium-sulfate using sulfuric acid. pH is adjusted to 3.5. Precipitate with sodium sulfide.
CdS is used to create pigments. CdS precipitation, washing the solid precipitates of insoluble cadmium salts to clean them, followed by calcination to transform them into hexagons and finally grinding to obtain powders. CdSe is used to produce cadmium-sulfide selenide. CdSe can co-precipitate and CdSe can generate cadmium selenide during the calcination.
Applications of Cadmium Sulfide Cadmium Sulfide S Powder –
Cadmium yellow, also called Cadmium Sulfide, is used to dye enamel, glass and plastics.
You can color almost any type of resin with nickel yellow. It is also translucent and suitable for plastics. The light-colored zinc yellow in polyethylene contains zinc sulfuride. It is recommended that the molding process be prolonged appropriately since zinc sulfide can promote polyethylene’s breakdown and turn it green. Avoid mixing cadmium yellow with any pigments that contain copper or copper salts in order to prevent the formation of copper sulfide (or green copper sulfurate). You can combine blue pigments and cadmium yellow to get green.
Due to its excellent thermal stability and light- and weatherfastness, as well as chemical resistance and high opacity, cadmium sulfide can be used primarily for pigments.
Here are other applications for cadmium-sulfide.
Photoresistors
Thin film transistors
Transducers
Solar cells
Electrochemical deposition
Sol-gel techniques
