When the aluminum-silicon alloys have a silicon content greater than 12.6% (silicon particle content as high as 14.5% or 25%), adding some Ni, Cu, Mg, and other elements to the alloy can increase Its complete mechanical properties.

These can be replaced by cast iron cylinders for a significant weight reduction. You can electrochemically treat the aluminum-silicon cylinder to remove the surface aluminum, retain primary silicon dots embedded within the inner wall and improve its wear and scratch resistance.

Due to its low weight and corrosion resistance, an alloy with between 11%-13% silicon content is one of the top piston materials.
