What is Aluminum Diboride AlB2 Powder?

Introduction to Aluminium Diboride AlB2 powder

Aluminum diboride

Or Aluminum Boride, Aluminium B2

This inorganic compound has the chemical name AlB2. It is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula AlB2. It’s a gray-red solid that is insoluble in water, at both room temperature (and pressure). The surface gloss of the material is lost when it’s heated. It stabilizes in cold dilute acids and then decomposes quickly in hot hydrochloric or nitric acid.

Aluminum diboride

This is made from a mixture of fine powdered aluminum and boron, and then reacting with heat. Aluminum boride is one of the two compounds made of aluminum and/or boron (the other being AlB12).

The reaction of aluminum boride with acid or hydrogen can produce dangerous gases. Aluminum boride can react with hydrochloric Acid to release borane, and aluminum chloride.

Structures made of aluminum diboride AlB2

The architecture of

aluminum boride

Similar to the structure of metal interdides, it is dependent mainly on both aluminum’s crystal structure and on their valence relation. AlB2, AlB4 and AlB12 are aluminum’s borides. AlB2 diboride can be created by reacting with two elements higher than 600. This is a layer structure that Al atoms directly overlap. A, A and B fill the triangle column created by Al atoms’ direct overlap. The boron layers are located between these two Al atoms. The graphite-like structure of the boron layers is very similar. In a hexagonal network, the boron molecules are interconnected. Every B atom lies 0.173 nm apart from all three other B atoms. Additionally, six Al-atoms are connected with B. They occupy the apex portion of the triangular column. Dilute hydrochloric acids can dissolve AlB2 to make a reductive solution, which may include HB(OH+). AlB2 cannot be dissolved in dilute sulfuric acids, but is soluble when dissolved in nitric. AlB2 was able to decompose AlB12 at 920.

The Physicochemical and Application Properties of Aluminium Diboride AlB2 Pulp

AlB2 single-crystal exhibits metallic conductivity parallel to the hexagonal basis plane. Boron, aluminum composite aluminum made with boron or protective coating of boron. Boron fibre has an average volume content between 45% and 55%. The specific gravity of boron fiber is low and it has excellent mechanical properties. The composite is unidirectionally reinforced with boron and aluminum and has a longitudinal strength of 1.21.7GPa. It also has an elastic modulus that can be adjusted depending on what process was used. Longitudinal specific elastic modulus, specific strengths are 35 and 34 respectively for titanium alloy duralumin or alloy steel. It is resistant to fatigue and has high strength, with a limit of 400.

The technique has been successfully used on fan blades in turbojet engines as well structural parts for aviation, aerospace and artificial satellites. For manufacturing plate and profile parts, hot pressing diffusion bonds is employed. Continuous casting is also an option to produce different profile types.

Aluminum Boride can be used for ceramics, in nuclear energy, in refractory and other applications.
