Chromium Trioxide Melting Point

chromium trioxide melting point is the temperature at which chromium trioxide melts. It can be found in many different forms, including pellets, pieces, powder, sputtering targets, tablets and nanopowder (from American Elements’ nanoscale production facilities).

Description

Chromium oxide is an acidic anhydride of chromic acid. It is used in a variety of applications, including plating copper and other metals, aluminum anodizing, corrosion inhibition, photography, purifying oil and acetylene, hardening microscopical preparations and as an oxidizing agent in organic chemistry.

Properties

It has a bluish-green color, a bipyramidal crystal system and a density of 2.70 g/cm3. It has a flammable gaseous state; the solid forms a brittle crystalline powder that breaks up rapidly in air.

Reactions and toxicity: It has been shown to be an oxidizer, a strong carcinogen and toxic to liver, CNS and lung tissue. Chronic exposures can lead to fulminant gastroenteritis, shock and toxic nephritis in humans.

Storage and handling: It should be stored in a dry, cool place in a container with a hazard symbol and label. It should also be stored away from combustibles, reducing agents and organic substances.

Transportation: It should be transported in plastic or glass containers with proper labels and a hazard symbol. It is a hazardous substance and must be transported according to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

Besides being a strong oxidizer, it is also a carcinogen and can cause local burns if it comes into contact with the skin. It may also be irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract if it is inhaled.
